Sports

Cross-Country

Coach: Kelsey Smit

Try-outs will be on Thursday, September 10th, Tuesday, Sept. 15th, and Thursday, Sept. 17th. All the following practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the rest of the season which lasts until October 26th. Our first meet will be on September 22nd in Estero. All cross country team members need to attend every practice and be prepared to participate promptly at 4 until 5.30.

Boys Basketball

Coach: Aaron Johnson

Basketball season starts in early September and ends in mid November. Coach Johnson's expectations for the basketball team is that he wants them to improve their skills, improve their understanding of the game of basketball, and have fun. Coach Johnson previously coached middle school basketball in Michigan for one of the states best programs on the west side of the state and is eager to get back into it here at BSCS.

Boys Soccer

Coach: Aaron Johnson

Soccer season starts in early January and finishes up in late February or early March. Coach Johnson's expectations of his team are to improve the team's soccer skills and to have fun while playing soccer. Coach Johnson also coaches for the Naples Sharks and has his National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as well as his National Goalkeepers Diploma plus his National D license from the United States Soccer Federation. Coach Johnson also played college soccer at Western Michigan University and played professionally for the West Michigan Edge of the United Soccer League.

Boys Golf

Coach: Aaron Johnson

Golf season runs from April to May. Coach Johnson hopes to teach his team the fundamentals of the game of golf and to get them to enjoy the game of golf. Coach Johnson is an avid golfer practicing his skills on the links of San Carlos Golf Club.

Activities

Below is a list of club offered in the fall of 2009. A new selection of clubs will be offered in March 2010.

Book-n-Cook

Club Leaders: Ms. Morgan Low & Ms. Tracey Schmidt
Through reading stories students will learn literacy concepts such as main idea, details, and sequencing. Students will also learn about healthy eating habits and then make a healthy snack related to the story.

Club Name-Chess Club

Club Leader: Mr. Johnson
Students will get to test their skills in chess by playing each other and Mr. Johnson in chess everyday in Chess Club.

Young Author's Club

Club Leaders: Mrs. Shelly and Mrs. Johnson
Young Author's Club is for students in grades one and two who are interested in writing and becoming authors. Students will practice their writing skills and learn how to write short stories, poems, jokes, etc. at their own writing level. Mini-lessons will be taught at the start of each session and students will complete many rewarding writing activities. Students will compile their writing pieces into a book to keep at the end of the club session.

Fishing\ Outdoors Club

Here are some of the things we will be learning how to do this year: Assemble\disassemble a tent, How to tie fishing knots, How to de-hook a fish safely\ How to hold fish, How to conserve our local resources, How to cast various forms of fishing rods (spinning, bait casting, fly etc.), Information on Florida fishing laws and regulations, and much, much more.

Alphabet Soup

Club Leaders: Mrs. Levine and Mrs. Dekle
Alphabet Soup offers craft activities based around phonemic awareness and a yummie treat to take home.

Arts & Crafts Club

Club Leaders: Mrs. Frederick & Ms. Rogers
Make and Take Arts and Crafts. We make jewelry and trinkets and small treasures. Lots of painting, beadwork and various crafts as well as Holiday items.

Homework Helpers

Club Leaders: Mrs. Krizka and Ms. Price
Teachers will assist students who are struggling with homework assignments.

Reading Adventures

Club Leader:Mrs. Michelle McBirney
Improve our reading skills by reading stories followed by fun projects!

Science Club for fourth and fifth grade students

Club Leader: Mrs. Elisa Murry
Meeting - Monday 3:30-4:30
Each week there will be 3-4 hands on Science activities that the students will have the opportunity to participate in.

Drama Club

Club Leaders: Mr. Glahn and Mr. Barnes
Wednesday afternoons, 3:30 - 4:30
Drama club is an opportunity for our students to cultivate a passion for the performing arts through drama games, improvisational exercises, and the staging of student written and produced shows. Students will build social skills, creativity, and teamwork through play in a fun and safe environment!

Music Club

Club Leader: Mrs. Davis
Music club is a fun time to explore music using xylophones, recorders, small un-pitched instruments, and movement.

Scrapbook Club

Club Leader: Mrs. Stephanie Cook
I will teach students how to scrapbook if they do not know how and we will make a 12x12 album of their choice. We will have a great time and a lot of fun with our friends.

Lego Creators Club

Club Leader: Mr. Kopp
Students grades K-8 will build Lego creations and compete with one another in timed competitions.

Cross Stitch Club

Club Leaders: Mrs. Betley and Mrs. Milton
Introduction to basic cross stitch and design.

Schoolyard Habitat

Club Leader: Mrs. Therese Hood
Learn about the wildlife that surrounds us and how we can help invite nature to our backyard and schoolyard.

Line Dancing Club

Club Leaders: Mrs. Melinda Sherman, Mrs. Kristen Velez
Description: In the Line Dancing Club, we learn and practice line dances or all types. We will learn the Electric Slide, Cha-cha Slide, The Watermelon Crawl, and others. At each meeting we do a brief warm-up, learn a new dance, and practice the ones we've already learned.

"Trash to Treasure" Art Club

Club Leader: Mrs. Trudy Kellum
Students have the opportunity to create 3-D sculptures from a variety of found objects, and are encouraged to bring interesting items (empty containers, towel tubes, buttons, beads, fabric, ribbon/yarn, etc.) to share with other club members.

Fitness Club

Club Leaders: Mr. Staesser and Ms. Smit
We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Our club is designed to have fun while learning how to eat right and how to get or stay in shape. We plan to accomplish this by playing games that incorporate physical exercise, have races, tracking our eating habits, and setting and accomplishing goals through exercise.

 

Before & After Care

The philosophy of the BSCS Before/After Care program is to provide an extension of the excellence in education standard of Bonita Springs Charter School. We will provide a safe, caring, and fun learning environment while encouraging your child's social, physical, and academic development.

All parents must enroll their child in the Before/After Care program prior to the child attending the program. There is a $25 registration fee that is due at the time of registration. You may enroll in the Before Care program, After Care program, or both. Walk-ins are accepted on an emergency basis and parents will be charged the daily rate.

The Before Care program operates from 7:00-8:15am and the After Care program operates from 3:00-6:00PM, during regular school days. We will offer care during school in service /teacher days and school vacation weeks providing at least 20 children are in need of care. A sign up sheet will be posted for parents.
